The 'Crimes against Morality' section of the 1893 Criminal Code included punishments of flogging, whipping and hard labour for homosexual acts. These provisions continued until removed under the Crimes Act 1961
Thank god this code came out or who knows what would be happening these days!! People are so cruel to gays, but I think that as long as they get on with their own lives without distrubing others then what is the difference between them and anyone else huh? Thats just my view though, other people see it differently!!
"Criminal Code included punishments of flogging, whipping and hard labour for homosexual acts"
how inhumane is that! just for liking someone of the same sex. Personally, i think its unnatural and morally wrong for two men or two women to be together (could be because of the environment i have been brought up in which is a christian arab household and i wouldnt say very openminded to this topic)
BUT i think its even more wrong to kill or beat people up because they are homosexuals. Being in Nz has showen me how accepted it is in such a wide society, i just wish gays and lesbians can be treated with more decency and respect in the middle east where it is seen as VERY taboo.
After all, we are all humans at the end of the day and need to be treated fairly.
Yeah, i agree with you maryam. I personally think its unnatural for two men/women to be together as well but they still have rights and should be treated equal to us. It makes me sad to think that just for being gay, they would get whipped and made to do hard labour. This issue reminds me a lot of black americans and all the crap they had to go through, but they kept fighting and have come a long way and i think that shows us that there is hope out there for homosexuals.
